Aquatic Physical Therapist and Rehabilitation

AquaLogix takes rehabilitation to a new level. The AquaLogix Fitness System is not only an effective exercise product that shapes, tones and increases cardiovascular endurance; but is also an incredible rehabilitation and therapy tool that has far-reaching applications.

  • Bells and Fins can be used in the treatment of shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and lower back.
  • AquaLogix equipment is particularly beneficial to those people with problems with their joints, feet, coordination, or any condition that requires low impact and low stress.
  • The AquaLogix omni-directional design combined with the unique properties of water creates an environment perfect for rehabilitation and healing.
  • Provides the ability to increase range of motion in a safe and stable medium and excellent for PNF.
  • With the demographic trends in the United States reflecting an increase in our population’s longevity, AquaLogix has design, programs and systems in place to embrace this trend.

This study was presented at the 67th Annual Assembly of American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation on Kinematic Motion Anaylsis in the Evaluation of Therapeutic Exercises used in Aquatic Rehabilitation conducted by Dr. Jan Prins from the University of Hawaii. The study was conducted using Aqualogix equipment. (download this rehabilitation study. PDF file)

"My focus in using the Aqualogix equipment goes beyond strength and cardio. I focus on core training and lumbar/pelvic stability. The 3 resistance levels of the Aquagrip Bells permit challenge beyond the traditional progressions. Once abdominal bracing seated against the pool wall is achieved and maintained while adding basic arm movements, aquagrip bells are added starting with the lightest resistance. As increased difficulty is desired, the correct bells are used. Basic movements include small shoulder flexion/extension, abduction/adduction, horizontal abduction adduction (symmetrical and bilateral), and bilateral "windshield" type movement to bring in internal oblique contraction - single side contraction. I also use different resistance bells at the same time to do small bent arm push downs in various side to side positions in front of the body. This is because we seldom use identical weights in everyday life. It is also useful to assist in correcting muscle imbalances between the sides of the body. Once these exercises are correctly practiced seated against the wall, progression takes them to free standing -
either from a lunge or spread leg stance and gradually narrow stance to hip width apart."

"The Leg shapers are perfect for "Angular Pilates" and Aqua Pilates to increase core/powerhouse challenge. Progression goes from no equipment to the progressive resistance of the leg shapers. Single leg circles - both seated against the pool wall and standing with side to pool wall - increase the difficulty of maintaining the abdominal bracing. Double leg lifts with the back remaining tight to the pool wall are added challenge, but only when it is possible to secure the back without impinging the shoulders. Standing and facing the pool wall, single leg kicks (knee flexion) require core stability so as not to over extend the back. Leg shapers are also useful for all walking progressions and deep water running."

I have been using your AquaLogix equipment for the last month, experimenting with therapeutic exercise for people with a variety of conditions: spinal cord injury, stroke, pre-surgery total knee replacement strengthening, myoclonus, Parkinson's, arthritis and fibromyalgia. I'm impressed with the ease of use, especially of the hand devices. Their unique design makes it easy to teach and execute ROM exercises in appropriate patterns, maintaining consistent resistance throughout the range.” ... Douglas W Kinnaird, NCTMB, ATRIC.
