I am Joy Friedberg. I formally was a commercial artist, and I spent a lot of time hunched over a drawing board or painting on walls because I had my own faux finishing business for a time. My fitness history is very interesting. At 26, I got into doing weight lifting. I was a weight lifter for most of my adult life. I also did yoga for 25 years and Pilates for about 15. I have to admit, of everything that I’ve done, my all-time favorite is really this AquaLogix because you kind of combine all of it into one thing.
It’s fun. It’s just plain fun. It’s more fun than getting on a bench and just pushing up … a very static routine … because you’re moving through the water so even, though you’re really pushing a lot of weight. It’s like you’re working in space and weightless. I am just able to do things I couldn’t do for a long time. There are positions I could never sustain. Even in yoga, to do a standing tree pose with one leg hooked up, I’d fall over. To do something like a half moon, where you’re leaning against the wall to have balance while you’re lifting your leg up, couldn’t do it.
In the water, you can just do these moves because you’re in water being held. You can’t fall over and hurt yourself. You cannot drop a weight and have an injury. You can exercise your back, your lats, your quads, your biceps, your triceps … you name the muscle group … your abdominals. You can do it all in the water. I can tell you it’s very effective because when I leave, after I shower and I powder and I’m all dressed, for an hour I have rivulets of perspiration running down my back. It is an intense, intense workout.
You can work to the degree that you want to work, depending on how much effort you want to put in. You can work to a degree that is comfortable for whatever your condition is. If you’re a super athlete, this is fabulous. If you’re just wanting to get into shape, I think, after having a few kids, it’s great. This is fabulous. I said fabulous before. That’s right, they should call it AquaFabula because it’s so good.
