FAQs

General

Would this be able to help build muscle like Weightlifting does?

Training with our equipment will certainly help you build muscle strength. We have some customers that use our gear instead of land-based weight training altogether, as well as some customers that use our equipment to complement their land-base weight training. Both are very effective, it just comes down to the individual and what their goals are. The benefit of training with drag resistance equipment is that it doesn’t load up your joints. With every movement you will be working both protagonist and antagonist muscles which will help you achieve more balanced muscle strength over time. Major benefits of aquatic resistance training are increased Core Strength, Muscle Tone, Flexibility, Endurance, Coordination, Speed and Power.

Where is Aqualogix and Aquastrength Equipment Made?

All the ABS and Polycarbonate components to our Fins, Bells and Barbells are manufactured in San Diego, CA. The high quality Neoprene and Hook & Loop components for our Fins is produced in Taiwan and imported for final assembly in our San Diego facility.

What do the colors represent?

The different colors in the Aqualogix range represent a different level of resistance:

Bells:

  • Green Bells = High-Speed
  • Black Bells = All Purpose
  • Blue or Pink Aquastrength Bells = All Purpose
  • Blue Bells = Max Resistance

Fins:

  • Green Fins = High Speed
  • Sulfur Fins = All Purpose
  • Blue or Pink Aquastrength Fins = All Purpose
  • Blue Fins = Max Resistance

Aquastrength equipment is available in both blue and pink, however, both provide the same level of resistance which would be considered All Purpose.

What is the recommended water depth?

Our equipment can be used in various water depths (both shallow and deep) and is often dependent on personal preference and the exercises you are performing. Most of our programs are designed for use in a pool somewhere between hip and chest depth, however, generally, you can adapt an exercise to suit the pool you are in. For example, if the pool is too shallow, you can drop to your knees to help you perform upper body exercises.

What is the difference between Aqualogix and Aquastrength?

Both ranges offer premium drag resistance training equipment with equal benefit however each boasts slightly different features. It really just comes down to personal preference and what you are wanting to use the equipment for.

We recommend reading this article for more information and to help you make the best selection based on your needs.

Hydro-Tone Barbell

I see a listing for the Barbell Kit and the Complete Hydro-Tone Barbell, which do I need?

If you already have a set of Hydro-Bells and simply want to be able to convert them to a barbell and back, then the Barbell Kit is all you need. If you don’t have a set of Hydro-Bells yet, then you will need to get the Complete Hydro-Tone Barbell, which includes the Hydro-Bells, Bar and Adapters.

How long is the Hydro-Tone Barbell?

The length of the bar itself is 3 foot. With the bells attached the total length is 58″

I already have an Aquastrength Barbell, what’s the difference?

The Hydro-Tone Barbell can be used as a barbell, or as bells. It also provides significantly more resistance than the Aquastrength Barbell so is ideal for those focused on strength and power. The Aquastrength Barbell is still a great option for general fitness and in particular rotational based exercises.

Do I need to take the Hydro-Tone barbell apart after using it?

If you live in a cool climate and can leave the barbell laying flat while in storage you can leave it fully assembled. However we recommend removing the bell from each end of the barbell before storing it if you live in higher temperatures or are unable to lay flat. This will help prevent any unnecessary bowing. Storing your equipment in a climate controlled location is always preferred.

Will the Barbell Kit work with an existing set of Hydro-Tone Bells?

Yes! If you already own a pair of Hydro-Tone Bells, you can purchase a barbell Kit to convert your bells into a barbell.

Can I use the Hydro-Tone bells separately for an upper body workout?

Yes! You can remove the bells by pushing the adapter buttons on both sides of the bar end simultaneously. Please note that the barbell adapter piece has been designed to remain in place to allow easy assembly. Whilst it will not affect the performance when using the bells on their own, we encourage you to take care and ensure the adapter pieces are facing away from your body when working out.

The Aquastrength Barbells use modified Aquastrength Bells which are not meant for handheld use.

What tools do I need to assemble my Hydro-Tone Barbell?

In addition to what comes in the box, the only tool you will need is a phillips screwdriver. A phillips screwdriver will work for both versions of the screw that your bells may have, “square” or “phillips.”

How do I assemble my Hydro-Tone Barbell?

You should have received instructions in the box. We also recommend watching this quick assembly video

Aquatic Racket Trainer

How many fins does the Aquatic Racket Trainer come with?

The Aquatic Racket Trainer includes 3 hybrid fin straps, each providing a different level of resistance. You will receive High Speed (green), All Purpose (Smoke) and Maximum Resistance (Blue).  These can be easily changed at any time to customize your workout to suit your fitness level and training goal.

What is the difference between the Aquatic Racket Trainer and Swing Trainer?

The only difference between the Aquatic Racket Trainer and Swing Trainer is the length of the handle. The Racket Trainer has a shorter handle, making it ideal for sports specific training in Tennis, Pickleball, Raquetball and Squash. The compact design of the Racket Trainer also makes it ideal for use in smaller, shallower pools. Those wanting to train for sports such as golf, baseball, softball or hockey will likely prefer training with the Swing Trainer given it’s longer handle.

Bell

What Bells are good for building muscle strength?

The Aqualogix Maximum Resistance Bells provide the highest level of resistance and are recommended for those who are focused on developing dynamic strength and endurance or work strictly on core power muscle groups. Some may find that they offer too much resistance for cardio or HIIT style workouts and would be better served with the All-Purpose size by Aqualogix or Aquastrength.

What Bells are good for general fitness and weight loss?

The Aqualogix All Purpose Bells or Aquastrength Bells are both great options for general fitness/ weight loss.

What Bells are a good option for elderly customers?

The High Speed Bells and Fins by Aqualogix are a popular option, however, if you are wanting slightly more resistance the All Purpose Bells would also be fine.

Is there benefit in owning more than one type of Bells?

Yes! You can switch between different sets of bells depending on the movements you are doing or the tempo you are working out at. Having two or more sets is also beneficial for performing drop sets. You can purchase a special bundle made up of 3 sets of bells here.

How much resistance do the Bells provide?

The resistive force achieved is directly correlated to the surface area of the equipment and the speed at which they are being moved through the water*. Below are some of the maximum forces that the bells can generate in pounds at 60 beats/reps per minute:

  • Aqualogix Maximum Resistance Bells = 60lbs
  • Aqualogix or Aquastrength All Purpose Bells = 40lbs
  • Aqualogix High Speed Bells = 25lbs

*Please note that the speed required to generate this resistance (especially with the larger equipment) would be extremely challenging for most people and it is not necessarily the most effective way to utilize the equipment. The resistance also changes with lever length, i.e. a chest fly at 60 reps/min would create much more resistance than an arm curl at the same tempo.

I have arthritis, what Bells would you recommend?

The Aquastrength Bells have a unique open handle design which is ideal for those with arthritis or grip limitations. If you have severe grip limitations you might want to consider trying a pair of our lower body fins instead, these can be worn on the wrist/forearm for upper body resistance so make a great alternative.

What are the best Bells for general fitness?

The Aqualogix All Purpose Bells or Aquastrength Bells are our go-to Bells for general fitness.

What Bells are the best for rehabilitation?

The Aqualogix High Speed Bells are a good option as they provide the least amount of resistance. Someone who is further along in their rehab journey may also consider the Aqualogix All Purpose Bells.

What Bells offer the least resistance?

The Aqualogix High Speed Bells provide the least resistance and are ideal for deconditioned athletes, those recovering from an injury or those focused on speed. They are also great for those performing prolonged upper body cardio workouts.

What Bells offer the most resistance?

The Aqualogix Maximum Resistance Bells provide the most resistance and are recommended for those who are focused on developing dynamic strength and endurance or work strictly on core power muscle groups.

Fin

How do I fit the Aqualogix Hybrid Fins to my wrists?

While the process used to fit the Aqualogix Hybrid Fins to your wrist is similar to the one used to fit them to your ankle, there is a method to make it easier. Once attached to your wrist, the fins will provide upper body resistance without anything to hold in your hand. You can also combine the use of the fins on your wrist and bells in your hands for increased upper-body resistance. See video link below.

https://vimeo.com/522104016

What Fins are a good option for elderly customers?

The High Speed Fins by Aqualogix are a popular option, however, if you are wanting slightly more resistance the All Purpose Fins would also be fine.

My Fins are slipping / moving during my workout, what can I do?

If the fins are fitted correctly, you should not experience too much movement during your workout. We recommend familiarizing yourself with our fin fitment video to ensure you achieve the best fit before hopping in the pool. Also, avoid applying sunscreen or lotion to the skin where the fins will be fitted.

No matter what you need to strap the fins on tightly for a good hold. Specifically for the Aqualogix version of the fins, an easy way to increase the security of the Velcro grip is to adjust (not cutting) the position of the neoprene pad. You can remove the pad from the fin and then slide it over about 1 inch. The overall length of the fin will now be longer and you will see the back side of the leading fin, when looking at the backside of the fin. This is fine though as you’ve also increased the surface area of the Velcro “Hooks” and will therefore have a larger contact patch when wrapped. If you continue to have any issues with getting your fins to fit properly, please contact us directly via chat, email or phone.

What Fins are the best for rehabilitation?

The Aqualogix High Speed Fins provide the least resistance and are a popular choice for rehabilitation (particularly for those who have recently undergone hip/knee surgery or total joint replacement). The Aqualogix All Purpose Hybrid Fins provide slightly more resistance but are also suitable for rehabilitation.

How do I fit the Fins to my wrist for upper body exercise?

Both the Aquastrength and Aqualogix fins can be worn on the wrist/forearm for upper body resistance. They are a great alternative to our bells for those with grip limitations and can also be worn whilst using the upper body bells for increased drag. We recommend watching the below fitment video to ensure optimum fit.

I have very small ankles, will the Fins fit?

The new and improved Hybrid Fins have been designed to achieve a more secure and snug fit on ankles and wrists as small as 6.5”.

I have large ankles, will the Fins fit?

The Aqualogix fins work up to about 12.5” in circumference. If you are needing larger than that, you can check out our Aquastrength Fins as those can be adapted with extra straps to work with even greater circumferences. The same can be achieved with the Aqualogix Hybrid Fins, you can purchase an additional maintenance kit and “daisy chain” the two strap sets together to make a larger combined unit as shown below.

What are the best Fins for general fitness?

The Hybrid All Purpose Fins and Aquastrength Fins are both great options for general fitness.

The velcro is starting to wear out on my Fins, what do I do?

The Aqualogix Hybrid Fins and Aquastrength Fins come with fully replacement velcro straps and neoprene pads so you can easily replace them as they deteriorate over time with heavy use.

If you have a pair of the classic Aqualogix Fins (those with the plastic fins riveted to the strap), you can try this. You may be able to increase the security of the Velcro grip by adjusting (not cutting) the position of the neoprene pad. You can remove the pad from the fin and then slide it over about 1 inch. The overall length of the fin will now be longer and you will see the back side of the leading fin, when looking at the backside of the fin. This is fine though as you’ve also increased the surface area of the Velcro “Hooks” and will therefore have a better contact patch when wrapped.

What Fins are best for plyometric / jumping exercises?

The Aquastrength Fins have been a popular choice among those who perform a lot of plyometric/jumping exercises as they provide slightly more vertical drag than the classic Aqualogix Fins. The new Hybrid Fin design added additional horizontal fins, thus increasing the vertical drag as well. To really increase the resistance, you can try holding a set of bells at your sides while performing the jumps.

How do I assemble my Fins?

The Aqualogix Hybrid Fins will require basic assembly, you can find step by step instructions here:https://vimeo.com/371775345.

What Fins offer the least resistance?

The Aqualogix High Speed Fins offer the least resistance and are ideal for deconditioned athletes, those recovering from knee/hip surgery or total joint replacement. They are also very popular for advanced “fast twitch” muscle and high speed training.

What Fins offer the most resistance?

Based on recent testing, the Aqualogix Maximum Resistance Fins provide the most resistance for the majority of movement patterns. If you are going to be performing more linear movements (e.g. jumping / plyometric exercises) then the Aquastrength Fins will offer slightly more resistance.

How do I correctly fit my new Hybrid Fins?

Please refer to our fitment videos for our tips and recommendations for small and larger ankle sizes. For general fitting of the Hybrid Fins see below;

Barbell

What exercises can be performed with the Barbell?

The Barbell is great for upper body, core, and rotary stability exercises. You can download our free Barbell 360 Workout program here for more exercise ideas.

What is the difference between the 3ft and 4ft Barbell?

The 4ft Barbell provides more flex with the increased bar length which promotes rapid muscle contractions. It allows for a wider grip position and more overhead mobility. We often recommend this barbell for those who are over 6ft or plan on doing lots of rowing or overhead movements. Those under 6ft are generally suited to our standard 3ft barbell.

How do I assemble my barbell?

Due to postal size restrictions, the barbell will often arrive unassembled. Here are step by step instructions and no tools are needed to complete assembly which takes approximately 2 minutes.

Dumbbell

What exercises can I perform with the Dumbbells?

We are working on a dumbbell specific program, however, they can be used to perform most of our standard upper body exercises that use bells. The Upper Body Program is a good workout to start with, we also recommend keeping an eye on our Facebook and Instagram as we are always sharing different exercise ideas.

What is the difference between the pink and blue Dumbbells?

Just the color, the pink and blue Dumbbells both offer the same level of resistance.

How do I assemble my Dumbbells?

Dumbbells may ship unassembled due to postal size restrictions for certain services. You will receive all the necessary components to complete assembly along with step by step instructions (via email and below). Assembly takes approximately 2-3 minutes.

Can the fins be worn on my wrist / forearm?

Yes! All of our fins can be worn on the wrist / forearm for upper body exercises. They are ideal for anyone who can’t hold our upper body bells due to grip limitations or arthritis. You can also wear our fins on your wrist in addition to using upper body bells for increased resistance.

How do I correctly fit my new Hybrid Fins?

Please refer to our fitment videos for our tips and recommendations for small and larger ankle sizes. For general fitting of the Hybrid Fins see below;

Will the fins move / rotate during exercise?

If the fins are fitted correctly, you should not experience too much movement during your workout. We have also upgraded the neoprene on the Hybrid Fin which features more of a textured / embossed material on the skin side of the pad which offers increased levels of grip. We recommend familiarizing yourself with our fin fitment video to ensure you achieve the best fit before hopping in the pool. Also, avoid applying sunscreen or lotion to the skin where the fins will be fitted.

No matter what you need to strap the fins on tightly for a good hold. This is fine though as you’ve also increased the surface area of the Velcro “Hooks” and will therefore have a larger contact patch when wrapped. This is shown in the Aqualogix Fin Fitment Video above.

Can I use these fins in pools that are kept at a higher temperature?

Yes, these fins can be used in all types of pools. The new neoprene used on the Hybrid Fin is more durable than ever before. As always, we recommend following our care instructions carefully to keep you fins in top shape for as long as possible. General wear and tear can be expected over time but our fins can easily be brought back to new by simply replacing the velcro strap and neoprene pad!

Who have the All-Purpose Fins been designed for?

The All-Purpose Fins are ideal for everything from general fitness and sports performance through to rehab and recovery. They are suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

I have large ankles, will they fit?

Yes! The velcro strap allows those with larger ankles to more evenly space the fins by just using the 4 outer slots and skipping the middle one.

I have small ankles, will they fit?

Yes! The Hybrid Fin features a new “tab lock” system that ensures a better fit than ever before for ankles <7”. Once fitted the velcro tab is able to pass through the leading fin to keep them locked in place.

What happens when the velcro and neoprene wears out?

Our new Hybrid Fins come with fully replaceable velcro straps and neoprene pads so you can easily replace them as they deteriorate over time and heavy use.

How do the All-purpose fins compare with the Aquastrength Fins?

The All Purpose fins provide slightly less resistance to the Aquastrength Fins. The Aquastrength fins also provide more vertical resistance which makes them a good option for those looking to do lots of jumping / plyometric exercises. Looking at our entire range from most to least overall resistance you would have; Aqualogix Blue Maximum Resistance Fins, Aquastrength Fins, Aqualogix All-Purpose Fins and finally Aqualogix Green High Speed Fins.

Are the new Hybrid Fins available in different resistance levels?

Yes! The Aqualogix Hybrid Fins are available in 3 different resistance levels. The Green Low Resistance “High Speed” Fins (4”) are great for beginning stages of rehab, long cardio sets, kick resistance for swimmers and those waiting quick tempo movement patterns. The Smoke or Pink Medium Resistance “All-Purpose” Fins (5″) are perhaps our most versatile size. Great for those ready for an increase in resistance to all the previous uses of the Green Fins and more general strength training. The Max Resistance Fins (6”) are ideal for stronger or more experienced users. The increased drag will generally mean slower tempo movements and lower reps.
